Chris' Corner Office: Celebrating Driver Appreciation Week
Help Us Celebrate Driver Appreciation Week September 12-16, 2022 Hi. I am here to talk about...
At Excel Courier, our drivers are at the heart of everything we do. They deliver more than packages. They deliver reliability, care, and connection to the communities we serve in the DC, Baltimore, Richmond areas, and beyond. As part of Driver Appreciation Week, we’re proud to share some of their stories in their own words.
1+ Years Driving with Excel Courier
A Day in the Life
Robert starts his mornings by taking care of his family before hitting the road around 10 a.m. His day runs until about 7 p.m. and includes checking emails, making deliveries, and navigating city traffic.
Favorite Part of the Job
“My favorite part of this job is being a team player, but most importantly, the satisfaction I get from helping others. Whether it’s picking up medical specimens or just making a delivery from A–Z, knowing I’m making someone’s day is what it’s all about for me.”
Advice for New Couriers
“Master the driver app, always be courteous, be punctual, treat every package as if it were irreplaceable, and if you have any questions, never hesitate to ask dispatch.”
What Motivates Him
Family is Robert’s biggest motivator — including his loyal German Shepherd, Max, who loves his kids very much, too.
Off the Clock
A lifelong Washington, D.C. native, Robert is a passionate Commanders fan and loves spending time with his family. He's very excited football season is back!
4 Months Driving with Excel Courier
A Day in the Life
Semaj starts his mornings with coffee and checks in around 8–8:30 a.m. His days include 5–6 full-time jobs ranging from legal documents to medical equipment, organs, and even plane parts. The variety is what he loves most.
Favorite Part of the Job
“Meeting new people that I come across when picking up/delivering. Especially when I go to their location regularly — we eventually know each other on a first-name basis.”
Advice for New Couriers
“Take time to get to know how Excel and our clients operate, be friendly and patient, stay consistent and reliable, communicate everything, ask questions, and ALWAYS keep your car clean and maintained as you'll be driving a lot. Lastly, have fun! This is a job, but make it fun and enjoyable. This is a stress free job and you'll absolutely love it!”
A Delivery That Stood Out
Semaj recalls delivering medical equipment to patients in a Maryland hospital who were so happy and told him he was their “ticket home”. They were all waiting to be released soon. A moment that reminded him how impactful his work can be.
What Motivates Him
Creating happiness for others by delivering or picking up their items. It keeps him motivated to be a great, reliable courier.
Off the Clock
When not driving, Semaj loves traveling, taking aimless drives, exploring new cities, and keeping up with the latest in technology, as he had a previous career in IT and still loves reading about it.
3+ Years Driving with Excel
A Day in the Life
Abdelrahman serves as a dedicated shuttle driver, transporting auto parts to help his team meet customer needs on time. His motto: punctuality and constant communication with dispatch.
Favorite Part of the Job
“The people, co-workers, and colleagues in the client's warehouse. They are the best. Special thanks goes to their great leader and manager, and all their staff. Without such a healthy environment, I don’t know what going to work would look like.”
Advice for New Couriers
“Punctuality, punctuality, punctuality. And always keep communication open with dispatch — they’re there for you 24/7/365.”
A Delivery That Stood Out
When a colleague had a minor accident, Abdelrahman stepped in to take over. Dispatch, without being prompted, arranged additional pay, but for him, it was all about teamwork and helping out.
What Motivates Him
A commitment to self-improvement and building a career in supply chain management.
Off the Clock
Abdelrahman is studying hard to complete his diploma in Procurement and Supply by mid-November 2025.
These spotlights highlight just a few of the incredible individuals who make up our fleet of 250+ drivers. Each has their own story, motivations, and passions, but together they share a commitment to reliability and service that powers everything we do at Excel Courier.
At Excel Courier, we know our success depends on the dedication of professional drivers who go the extra mile every day. If Driver Appreciation Week has you thinking about a career where your work truly matters, we’d love to hear from you.
